X, formerly known as Twitter, ccoming soon with built-in audio and video calls. This was confirmed by Elon Musk, who bought the social network just a year ago, in new post in which he claims that this feature will have “a set of unique factors”.
So far, X (Twitter) has been one of the few social networks that has not had the ability to make audio or video calls, despite having a direct messaging section on the platform. The ability to make video calls, in fact, will be added directly to messages. It will appear at the top of the screen, next to the contact icon, according to Andrea Conway, a designer at the company who shared a tweet with screenshots of the feature.
Elon Musk, for his part, has confirmed some clues to the feature. The main one is calls and video calls from Twitter. can be done from any device, including Android, iOS, Mac or PC phones or tablets. Musk also claims that phone number is not required just like on Instagram. Finally, he claims that this feature will make X (Twitter) “an efficient global address book.”

Calls and video calls reach X (Twitter)
There is no doubt that the ability to make calls and video calls is another feature that will turn X (Twitter) into the social network that Elon Musk wants: an application that allows you to do absolutely everything. But this is also a way to cope or at least try to cope with Instagram, one of its main competitors. The social network, owned by Meta, has actually been offering the ability to make calls and video calls without having to provide a phone number for years.
Twitter is also adding other new features to direct messages such as the ability to reply to a specific message by swiping on itor. Until now, users had to hold down a message and press the “Reply” button that was displayed on the screen. X Direct messages (Twitter) also got the ability to send audio messages a few weeks ago.
Neither Elon Musk nor Linda Iaccarino, the CEO of the company that used to be called Twitter, have confirmed when the video calling feature will be available, but it’s likely that it will arrive in the coming weeks.
