The Federation Council was outraged that “no one reacts” to the growing financial hole of the Russian Post. During the meeting, the speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, Valentina Matvienko, called for an immediate investigation into this situation, Vedomosti reported.

The Federation Council called for an urgent solution to the financial hole of the Russian Post

At the end of 2022, Pochta recorded RAS losses of 27.2 billion rubles and revenues of 208 billion rubles. Thus, the company’s negative profitability was 13%.

As for 2023, in the first quarter losses amounted to 5 billion rubles and revenues amounted to 50 billion rubles. Direct revenue from postal services fell by 5%.

Matvienko called Pochta’s financial situation “very sad” and proposed conducting a “thorough analysis of what is happening.”

“Perhaps other processes are taking place that need to be corrected with the participation of law enforcement agencies or others,” the President of the Federation Council suggested.

Matvienko, addressing Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov, noted that no one reacts to the company’s financial situation.

“Well, it’s impossible: the financial hole in the Post Office grows and grows and no one reacts,” he said.

To resolve the current situation, the company should develop a “correct model of existence”, as well as take the measures that the government considers necessary.

According to the spokesperson, it is necessary to take action urgently, because “the more we cover our eyes, the worse it will be.”

In June, the general director of the Russian Post, Mikhail Volkov, stated that among the company’s priority objectives is to become a key logistics operator for electronic commerce. Pochta is also prepared to enter new markets. The company planned to open a subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates.
