Kaspersky Lab has announced the upcoming release of a new smartphone that will replace the iPhone and promises to be secure and competitive for government workers. The main emphasis is on the security of the device against cyber threats. Kaspersky announced that the company is developing an operating system and software and will not produce the smartphone itself.

The smartphone will have additional security features such as filters and application control for certain sites. This device will probably be Android-based and can be installed on different smartphones. However, experts doubt the success of this idea, since Russian smartphones face fierce competition from Chinese manufacturers and do not seem attractive to mass consumers.

Russia’s ban on iPhone use by government employees began last summer, and attempts to create alternative devices have been ongoing ever since. However, competitors are still considered niche and have a limited market. The main attention is paid to the security of critical infrastructure against cyber threats.
