The surprise in this data was the significant drop in Apple PC shipments. According to the report, Apple’s performance fell between 23% and 29%. The only company to show a similar double-digit decline was Asus, which dropped between 10.7% and 11.5%.
In contrast, HP was the only company to achieve positive results, posting growth between 6.4% and 6.5% according to IDC, Gartner and Canalys. Analysts believe the upcoming holiday shopping season could further boost growth in the PC market and possibly signal the end of a long decline.
Mikako Kitagawa, managing analyst at Gartner, said there is reason to believe that the PC market decline has bottomed out, giving hope for a brighter future for the industry.
