The average bill for tips spent in Russia increased by 20% during the first nine months of 2023. Most of the time, tips are left in restaurants, but after the waiters and waiters calmed down, the masters of the Beauty salons calmed down and displaced the taxi drivers.
Specialists at the analytical resource “Check Index” recorded an increase in the average bill based on tips. Over the nine months of 2023, it increased by 20% (up to 151 rubles) compared to the same period in 2022 and by 37% in 2021.
In Russia, the average tip is up to 10% of the purchase, in Moscow – up to 13%. At the same time, when paying in cash, the size of the tip is 30-40% larger, analysts noted.
“Thanks to the emergence of various ready-made services, as well as proprietary applications of points of sale and entrepreneurs for working with tips, it has become more comfortable for the consumer to thank the service or product provided,” reported Check Index .
Most of the time, tips are left to bartenders and waiters. In 2023, beauty salon technicians took second place, overtaking taxi drivers. The main recipients of tips also include couriers and coaches.
