The last long-awaited worldwide release of this year took place – the film “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” was released in wide release.

The new product went through real production hell. Over the years, the films have been re-shot several times. It was supposed to be released last year, but then the premise fell through, which is why Warner Bros. again called large-scale reshoots.

At the same time, locations were included in the schedule due to the fact that the actors were too busy with other projects, and this was not so important to them.

We have already watched the new product and will hasten to share our impressions. How did the latest film turn out without the direct participation of James Gunn, who is supposed to restart the DC cinematic universe? Let’s figure it out.

This movie failed before he was even born.

As I indicated above, the film did not refer to reviews during test screenings. Then the audience rated our version extremely negatively.

Now the rating of the new product on iMDB is 6/10. That’s not a small amount, but the company’s $130 million in initial fees indicate it’s likely to flop. Returning to the USA, in one of the main Hollywood markets, he collected $28 million.

Why are the audience so unhappy? Now let’s talk.

What is the movie about: in the sequel, Arthur Curry (aka Aquaman) will have to defend Atlantis, for which he is forced to turn to his brother Orm, a traitorous enemy, for help.

A new threat looms over Atlantis, one that could lead to an irreversible catastrophe. Not even Aquaman can join one, and so he must include an unexpected alliance for the safety of his kingdom.

The main problem of the film was, oddly enough, the script. He has other flaws, but we’ll talk about them later.

The number of unclosed plot holes that are tied to the first part is simply off the charts. And there are even more of them here.

But even this is not so scary if the overall story is interesting and does not cause melancholy. Alas, the sequel to “The Water Man” cannot testify to this. As before, the picture is more connected with its aesthetics and style, but in history the failure comes under its own authority.

The point is that the writers couldn’t quite decide whether they were writing the climactic story for the DC Extended Universe or just an intermediate stage. Why? The writers couldn’t figure out WB’s movie release schedule and decide who would come out first: The Flash or the new Aquaman. As a result, we get something in between confuses not only the audience, but also the authors.

Atlantis itself faded into the background. Previously, they flirted with the viewer with the help of all sorts of myths about a lost sunken city-civilization, now here it seems that this advancement of the participants is everything.

Director James Wan seems completely unsuited to the task. He’s a master of horror, but apparently a bad creator of superheroics.

Hero development has become incredible stupid. If in the original they were afraid of the throne, then in the sequel, as if they had forgotten about this, you constantly made caustic jokes in the direction of the other. And I do it in a friendly way.

But they don’t have the chemistry that Thor and Loki had in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Patrick Wilson doesn’t even try to hook up with Jason Momoa. It seems that each of them plays a role, but they interact only technically. Where it requires development.

All such roughness looks forced (like this review, ha ha). They do not take into account a coherent, well-thought-out story, and the branch about the lost phenomenon is simply boring to watch. And after all, Wang directed the original, which was more or less worthy of attention. Here the spark seems to have died out. And effort too.

This world is no longer impressive

Just as the first “Aquaman” looked natural and natural, the second one looks mediocre. There are a huge number of charts used for 2023, and it doesn’t always have the effect you expect.

Many of the irregularities in the dialogue were clearly attempted by the authors to hide visual observations. But even here there are some inconsistencies.

Creativity doesn’t work here. No plot, no dialogue (they only cause hysterical laughter), no visual presentation. Yes, some scenes in the underwater kingdom look impressive, but overall – nothing special. There is simply nothing to catch the eye, and this is with a budget of $205 million!

And why all? We see what the underwater world itself is in just a few seconds at the moment of our enemy. And this is practically the only moment when we will be able to see the underwater kingdom in all its glory.

The action scenes are shot lazily and very choppy. You can see how many elements were cut during installation. The only thing that made me happy was the fight with the tridents.

Jason Momoa in this film decided to play not Aquaman, but Dante from The Fast and the Furious. Or just yourself. The superhero we all knew and loved is not here.

Waste of time

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is an outlet film.

It does not carry any semantic load, although it tries to flirt with the theme of ecology and global warming. This is a bad attraction, average visually and a stupid comedy with important facial expressions, trying to be horror.

Don’t waste your time on him. Better watch the original. Anyway, James Gunn will restart the DC universe after this picture.
