Why such a jump?

NAND flash memory is the culprit. Prices have already increased since July 2023, but manufacturers such as Samsung, SK hynix and Micron want to raise prices further to finally turn a profit after months of losses.

How high will they go?

A 50% increase would bring prices back to July 2021 levels.

What can you do?

If you need an SSD, act fast. Prices are only increasing. For less critical data, consider alternative storage options such as hard drives. Search for used devices or shop from different sites for the best prices.

And remember, this price increase doesn’t have to last forever. In the long run, a healthy memory industry means a brighter future for SSDs and perhaps faster price declines.
