The bill’s explanatory memorandum states that the hypothetical technology could provide audio, visual or haptic warnings to the driver, ultimately limiting the vehicle’s speed. The operation of the systems should be based on artificial intelligence algorithms and the speed should not exceed 10 mph – 16 km/h.

“I don’t think most people would consider this an abuse of power. We have speed limits, most people support speed limits because they know that speed is lethal. “I think if you asked anyone if people should be driving more than 10 miles per hour over the speed limit unless there’s an ambulance, I think most people would say no,” the senator explained.
