Ars Technica journalist Samuel Axon decided to conduct an unusual experiment: he walked around with Vision Pro on the street all day to test people’s reactions.
Since the release of the Vision Pro, we’ve seen a ton of photos and videos of the Vision Pro being used behind the wheel, in a restaurant, and just on the street. Most of these were just funny videos, but Axon decided to find out how these reactions manifested themselves in real life. In short: No way.
Vision Pro can be easily used outdoors. The speed of data transfer from the camera to the screen is very high and there is no discomfort. But the colors still don’t look the same, especially on a sunny day.
Salespeople in stores and waiters in restaurants did not react in any way to the journalist when he placed an order and received food. But there was one funny situation.
He [официант] placed my plate in front of me, but seemed to be especially careful, believing that I could not see him. When I picked up the plate, he seemed taken aback. “Can you see this thing?” he asked. “Yeah,” I said. He shook his head in confusion and left.
At the same time, the journalist himself observes social discomfort all the time. He didn’t receive any negative reactions, but he always thought about how other people would react to him when he interacted with them while wearing the helmet.
As for the applications, they are fixed in one place and do not move behind the helmet. Axon opened Apple Music to play music, and the app stuck in the background of his neighbor’s house. When he moved on, the application remained in one place.
The journalist also noted that Apple Maps does not have augmented reality navigation, although this device is best suited for it.
PS In Moscow, where Vision Pro is not officially sold, no one will care if you use it on the street. We checked it personally.
