The robot is equipped with camera complexes, motion and spatial orientation sensors, a computer vision system and can learn. RoboGuide is primarily aimed at visually impaired and blind people.
This guide robot differs from similar systems in that it can establish a dialogue with the user. The machine can answer questions and carry on a conversation.
In addition, other robot dogs’ indoor GPS often fails, so the robots get “lost” in an enclosed space. But this does not apply to RoboGuide: This robot is guided by cameras.
To test the robotic dog, researchers used it to lead a tour of Scotland’s oldest museum, the Hunterian. RoboGuide showed us around the museum building and told the stories behind the six exhibits.
