According to Microsoft, updates for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 systems released in February 2024 are not installed due to error 0x800F0922 and downloads are stuck at 96%.

Users experiencing this issue see an entry with error code 0x800F0922 in Windows Event Viewer.

After a failed security update, a message appears on the screen: “Something went wrong. Do not worry; changes will be reverted. Please do not turn off your computer.”

Microsoft says it is working on a solution to this problem and promises to provide a solution in the next version.

A workaround for affected users is to delete the hidden folder ‘C:$WinREAgent’; After this, the system may need to be rebooted.

Although Microsoft did not provide detailed information about the cause of update installation problems, the suggested workaround points to a link to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) that also caused problems installing Windows 10 updates in January 2024.
