Rosatom State Corporation plans to create two floating power units for the Primorsky Territory. Minister of Energy of the region Andrei Leontyev announced this at the Atomexpo-2024 exhibition. He stated that these units will help close the 200 megawatt energy deficit in the region and can provide electricity to the Primorsky Territory for the next 40 years.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding between Rosatom and the Investment Agency of the Primorsky Territory on cooperation in the creation of floating power units confirms this plan. This will also create new jobs and attract investment to the region, according to Vladimir Aptekarev, deputy head of Rosatom’s mechanical engineering department.
Preconditions for energy scarcity already exist in the Far East, and by 2029-2030 the region will need approximately 2 gigawatts of energy. Rosatom believes that the prospects for the development of nuclear power plants in the Far East will be successful. Currently, the state company is represented in the region by the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant and the floating nuclear power plant “Akademik Lomonosov” in Chukotka.
