After analyzing a massive database, scientists created a neural network that can predict the behavior of turbulent flow. They then removed small structures from the model step by step and evaluated their impact on the overall picture using a special algorithm.
Now, thanks to experiments with real data obtained at the University of Melbourne, scientists are confident that their method can be applied to real flows, opening up a fundamentally new way to unravel the mysteries of turbulence.
