Disney has carried out the largest mass layoff in the history of the animation industry. The corporation laid off 14% of its staff at the Pixar studio, which released, among other things, “Finding Nemo,” “Up” and “The Incredibles.” The reduction is due to a restructuring to reduce the number of cartoons produced.

The animation studio Pixar laid off 175 people, that is, 14% of its total employees. This was the largest staff reduction in the animation industry in history, notes Variety.

The layoffs at Pixar are related to Disney’s corporate restructuring, in which it intends to reduce the production of animated series in favor of cartoons.

In 2023, Disney carried out a massive workforce reduction, laying off 3.6% of its 220 thousand employees worldwide. Then Pixar’s staff was reduced by 75 people.

The Pixar studio is known for producing many blockbuster and, in particular, Oscar-winning cartoons, for example, “Finding Nemo”, “The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille”.
