Federal Communications Commission Commissioner Brendan Carr wrote letter Apple CEO Tim Cook and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai demanding that TikTok be removed from app stores.

Carr believes that TikTok does not comply with the rules of the App Store and Google Play because it collects a lot of sensitive data.

TikTok is not what it seems at first glance. It’s not just an app for playing funny videos or memes. This is sheepskin. At its core, TikTok is a sophisticated storage tool that collects a large amount of personal data and sensitive data.

Carr’s official letter also contains a recent BuzzFeed investigation alleging that TikTok employees in China have access to personal US users.

Apple and Google are either required to remove TikTok, or excluding a report by July 8 explaining why they won’t be blocked by the app. [CNBC]
