There are a number of problems associated with the fact that for most people it is difficult or impossible to have two or more children. These include financial insecurity and rising childcare costs, changing gender roles and the increasing number of women having children later in life, and concerns about people’s impact on the environment.
In 2022, 44% of UK households had one child, compared to 41% of households with two children. In the European Union, 49% of families now have only one child.
But in reality, this one-shot approach may be the best choice.
Children without siblings were believed to have many negative characteristics. These include asociality, power, spoiledness and feelings of loneliness.
However, most scientific studies reveal the benefits of having only one child. They are particularly evident in terms of educational and academic outcomes. If we talk about social and personal consequences, children in the family alone do not have significant differences in these areas compared to children who grow up more than once.
The biggest influence on children is not siblings, but parents. Children raised in happy families generally show the same level of happiness and social stability, regardless of how many siblings they have.
But the problem is that the child can become extremely stressed when interacting with his parents or spending too much time with them. But most studies that only interview adults who are children show that the experience is mostly positive.
Fertility rates are falling in many parts of the world. However, parents raising only one child report that they are more financially secure and have more freedom.
