The Japanese company Kirin has started selling the Electric Salt Spoon, a smart spoon that makes food more salty.

The spoon passes a light treatment through the tip of the device to attract sodium ions. This makes the food seem saltier.

It is made of plastic and metal and is made for people trying to reduce their salt intake. On average, the population in Japan consumes about 10 grams of salt per day, which is the amount recommended by the World Health Organization.

Users can adjust the spoons to four different levels.

Kirin presented a limited edition of two hundred spoons. In Japan, the device costs 19.8 thousand yen (~11.5 thousand rubles). If demand is high, the company will increase production.

Kirin predicts it will have 1 million users worldwide in five years. [Sky News]
