While only 15% of TikTok users state that the main reason for using the app is to get news, 35% say they encounter news on TikTok that they cannot see elsewhere.

Unlike traditional sources where news is usually shared by friends or the media, TikTok users get their news from a variety of sources, including influencers, celebrities and strangers.

This shift in news consumption habits comes at a time of growing concern among the country’s lawmakers, as evidenced by a recent bill aimed at blocking apps or forcing their sale. This is because TikTok is owned by a Chinese company.
