Microsoft ‘nerfs’ Copilot on PCs after experimental update

The latest Windows 11 experimental update has made Microsoft Copilot more useless on Copilot+ computers. Now the AI-powered assistant is just a Progressive Web App (PWA), a browser-based application that does not have close integration with the operating system.

“As part of this update, we are also improving the Copilot experience in Windows as an app that will be pinned to the Taskbar,” Microsoft explains. With the update, the “Windows Key” + “C” shortcut no longer works to access the assistant on Copilot+ computers.

Why did they ‘nerf’ Copilot?

A. Microsoft didn’t explain why it demoted Copilot to PWA. In the latest post on the Windows Insider testers’ blog, the company notes that the update allows you to access “the benefits of the traditional app experience,” such as the ability to resize and move the assistant window at any time.

Since this is only an experimental change, changes may occur over time. However, the reduction in Copilot’s capabilities may be related to the controversy surrounding the Recall function, which has been delayed indefinitely after being criticized by community and privacy experts.
