Video platform YouTube has updated the service’s Privacy Policy to address the risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI). It’s now possible to request the company remove clips that include unauthorized digital copies of your appearance.
YouTube’s opinion is this: Detect and report the use of deepfakes or the creation of digital clones unauthorized. At least for now, only the affected person can make a claimUnless it is proven that he/she does not have access to the connected equipment, is a minor, or is already dead.
“If someone has used AI to alter or create synthetic material that resembles your appearance or voice, request that it be removed. As a requirement for removal, the content must depict a realistic, altered or synthetic version of you,” it says.
Since March of this year, YouTube has required creators to self-identify AI-generated videos when publishing them. On the other hand, the service tends to allow artificially generated music as long as record labels grant permission for its use to their artists and albums.
How do you report an AI video that looks like you?
Have you found a video on YouTube that contains AI or other synthetic alterations representing you without your permission? The first step to requesting the removal of this clip is to access the report form on the Google support page using this link .
Here you need to fill out a form with identification data and as many details about the breach as possible. The more evidence and information about the possible fraud, the more likely the platform is to accept the report.
The report will be evaluated based on certain criteria such as: whether the content is synthetic or modifiedif person clearly identifiable“if the retraction is realistic and involves a public or well-known figure”Conducting sensitive activities such as crimes, acts of violence, and endorsements of products or political candidates“.
YouTube does not automatically remove content: every request is reviewed by real staff. If there is evidence of abuse, the channel that posted the content will be notified and given up to 48 hours to remove it.
