The apps in question are Red Shield VPN, Le VPN, Proton VPN and NordVPN. It is clarified that Roskomnadzor (RKN) demanded that Apple services be removed.

“Apple, at the request of Roskomnadzor, has removed the Red Shield VPN app from the Russian App Store. We are aware of at least one other VPN app that was removed at the same time as ours,” one of the services said in a message.

Also, NordVPN and Proton VPN are not available for installation in the Russian Federation. At the same time, there are no problems downloading them from other regional app stores.

Since 2021, more than 160 VPN services have been blocked in the Russian Federation. Since November 2023, the RKN has the right to block sites with instructions to bypass blocking. Since March 2024, advertising of VPN services is prohibited.
