In the first six months of 2024, the volume of cash in circulation decreased to 570 billion rubles. This is the lowest figure in the past nine years, RBC reported, citing statistical data.
In recent years, the amount of cash in the hands of the population has been growing. For example, in the second half of 2022 it increased by 2.3 trillion rubles. However, in September 2023, the amount of cash in circulation began to decline, experts noted.
Experts cite high interest rates on bank deposits as the main reason for the increase in cash in circulation. Over the past 12 months, more than 10 trillion rubles have been deposited.
