“By decision of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, Google LLC (Google LLC) was found guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.50 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation,” the joint press service of the Moscow courts said in a statement.

The “self-control” law came into force in February 2021. According to its provisions, companies that own social media must independently monitor and remove prohibited information. They should also have a user feedback form. Companies are also obliged to report on all of this.

Google is regularly fined in Russia for failing to remove banned information. Telegram was also fined for a similar offense.
