According to an Apple representative, the lawsuit was withdrawn due to the fact that NSO Group is no longer a leader in the spyware market, so defeating this company will not have the desired effect. Moreover, a lawsuit with NSO Group could lead to the leak of internal Apple documents containing data on systems and technologies implemented in the vendor’s devices, which could lead to a decrease in their security.

Such fears on the part of Apple stem from the experience of WhatsApp, whose confidential information was made public during the trial with the NSO Group, which turned out to be a side effect of the legal confrontation with the developers of one of the most dangerous spyware programs.

At the same time, Apple has not changed its position and the content of its claims against NSO Group, but will focus its efforts on improving protection against surveillance, not the lawsuits.
