Seung-Jae Lee, MD and PhD, from Sunchunghyang University Hospital in Bucheon, South Korea, and colleagues analyzed the incidence of cardiovascular disease in people with and without migraine. For this, data were obtained from the Korea National Health Insurance Service for the years 2002-2018, and the average follow-up period for the participants was 14.8 years. In total, the experts examined information on 130,050 people with migraine and about 130,050 people without migraines.

The researchers found that the migraine group was more likely to experience various types of cardiovascular disease. Migraine was generally associated with peripheral artery disease (adjusted hazard ratio or aHR = 2.29), coronary heart disease (aHR = 2.17), ischemic (aHR = 2.91) and hemorrhagic stroke (aHR = 2.46), atrial fibrillation (aHR = 2.46). = 1.84)

Additionally, women with migraines were more likely to develop heart disease than men.
