Apple has announced new MacBook Pros with M4 processors.
The upgrade affected two options: with diagonals of 14 and 16 inches. Available with M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max processors. The latter is manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm (N3E) process.
The 16-core chip contains 12 performance cores and four efficiency cores, which is 2.2 times faster than the M1 Max. The GPU contains up to 40 coresit is 1.9 times faster than M1 Max.
M4 Max supports up to 128GB of unified memory with memory bandwidth up to 546GB/s. The chip contains an improved Media Engine with two video encoding engines and two ProRes accelerators. Like the M4 Pro, the M4 Max supports Thunderbolt 5 with data transfer speeds of up to 120 Gbps.
Benefits of MacBook Pro with M4:
💻 Affinity Photo image processing is 7x faster than the 13″ Core i7 MacBook Pro and 1.8x faster than the 13″ M1 MacBook Pro
💻 3D rendering in Blender is 10.9x faster than a 13″ MacBook Pro with Core i7 and 3.4x faster than a 13″ MacBook Pro with M1
💻 Scene recognition in Adobe Premiere Pro is 9.8x faster than a 13″ MacBook Pro with Core i7 and 1.7x faster than a 13″ MacBook Pro with M1
💻 5x faster simulation of algorithmic systems in MathWorks MATLAB compared to a 16″ MacBook Pro with Core i9 and 2.2x faster than a 16″ MacBook Pro with M1 Pro
MacBook Pro can now display SDR content with development up to 1000 nits and HDR content with peak brightness of up to 1600 nits. For $150 you can install a nanotexture screen that will create almost any movie.
The laptop has a new 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, which provides improved video quality in difficult lighting conditions.
Apple specifically notes that the new MacBook Pros work without recharging up to 24 hours. This is a record for Mac.
The M4 Pro version can support up to three 6K 60Hz displays via Thunderbolt or HDMI; one LED with 6K development with 60Hz development and a second LED with 8K development with 60Hz development or 4K with 240Hz development.
M4 Max-enabled version with three interchangeable displays supporting 6K@60Hz via Thunderbolt and one external display supporting 4K@144Hz via HDMI. Either two external displays capable of 6K@60Hz via Thunderbolt and one external display running up to 8K@60Hz or one external display running 4K@240Hz via HDMI.
Both models come with an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 charging port and a headphone jack, as well as support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
