Metabolic syndrome is diagnosed when a person has three or more of the following conditions: high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high triglycerides, low good cholesterol, and excess fat around the waist. Fortunately, all of these can be controlled through nutrition.

According to experts, the best substance for metabolic syndrome is: fiber. Jenna Braddock, a registered dietitian and nutritionist, notes that a high-fiber diet is good for weight control and normalizes blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol.

Research shows that people who eat a fiber-rich diet are less likely to develop metabolic syndrome.

Ph.D., a registered dietitian at Olipop. Renee Korczak adds that high-fiber foods generally take longer to chew. It also reduces the level of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, and increases the feeling of fullness after a meal.

To get more fiber, eat foods like apples, pears, peaches, plums, dried fruits, nuts, grains, vegetables, beans, lentils and seeds every day.
