NASA has published the first color photograph of a distant part of the universe. It was filmed with the James Webb Telescope and was first demonstrated at a conference of US President Joe Biden.
The space agencies note that this is the most detailed, deepest and clearest photograph taken of all time. It is noted that this is not the whole picture, but part of it. Full version essentially at 17:30 Moscow time.
Thousands of galaxies… appeared in the Webb’s field of vision for the first time. This huge amount covers an area of the sky about the size of a grain of sand that someone is holding at arm’s length.
— NASA statement
The image consists of several images taken by the telescope’s infrared camera over the course of 12.5 hours. The image shows the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 “as it was 4.6 billion years ago.”
