Android Authority reports that the latest version of the Google app (16.42.61.sa.arm64) adds code for a function that will turn Gemini Live on and off during a conversation. The function has been successfully activated, which means it will be available to all users soon.

Reviewers say users have long requested this feature, as it would be particularly useful in noisy environments because it would prevent background sounds from being misidentified as speech or commands that could cause AI errors.

Although the new button replaces the existing audio pause feature, it is thought to be more useful. The mute button allows Gemini Live to continue responding in real time even in noisy environments, while the pause feature pauses the entire conversation.
