Despite its budget price tag, the console has already produced impressive results in tests, including running some games on the Nintendo 3DS.
In a video released over the weekend, RG DS successfully tackled Rune Factory 4 and Shovel Knight. The game ran smoothly except for some minor audio artifacts.
This means the device can handle basic 3DS emulation, but it’s unlikely to be able to handle more demanding games like Pokémon X/Y.
The console supports pen control, allowing you to play classic DS games like Trauma Center: Under the Knife. However, the pen is not stored in the box and the response is slightly higher than with the original hardware.
Anbernic has not yet announced its exact features and release date, but judging by the company’s previous launches, we won’t have to wait long for the announcement. RG DS promises to be the most affordable device in the 2025 dual-screen retro console race.
