Smartwatch makers Fitbit are phasing out the Fitbit Connect app, which lets you stream music from your computer to your wearable devices. The feature will no longer be available in October, but in the meantime, there is time to subscribe to services through which it will be possible to exchange audio files between devices.

Fitbit will phase out the Fitbit Connect desktop app starting in October

There is an official message on the support page:

On October 13, 2022, we will remove the ability to transfer playlists to your Fitbit watch through your computer. You can continue to play personal music previously stored on your watch and you can now transfer playlists to your devices using the Deezer and Pandora apps.”

Fitbit Connect is an application for Mac and Windows computers that allows you to synchronize data between devices through software, remember The Verge.

At the same time, integration with this app is currently only relevant for older Fitbit models (Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, or Ionic). The company is moving away from software in favor of its mobile app.

Unfortunately, the services that Fitbit offers to use in exchange for the program are paid. This can be frustrating for owners of older Fitbit devices.

For those who use the new ones (Versa 3 and Sense), this news will not be shocking. They already work only through Deezer or Pandora. They never had the opportunity to download music from a computer to a watch for free.

Also, many users use their Fitbit devices to listen to music through Spotify or online radio.

If offline mode is important to anyone, the good news is that all the files that have already been downloaded to the devices will still be available. It will not be possible to only add new musical compositions from a computer or laptop.

Fitbit doesn’t explain why it is getting rid of Fitbit Connect. Perhaps the demand for this software alone is no longer great enough to keep the service running.

Google (the parent company of Fitbit) did not respond to The Verge’s request for comment.
