Yamaha is coming with an update for the RX-A4A, RX-A6A and RX-A8A AV receivers. The new firmware version 1.65 aims to expand the receivers supported video formats and allow 4K/120 Hz video signals to pass through in addition to HDR10+. In order to use the new functions optimally after the update, you still need to select and confirm the higher frequency or resolution under the Video/HDMI menu item.

According to the manufacturer, the playback of internet radio stations should also be improved and the functions of the MusicCast Controller App should be expanded. The app now allows fast forward and rewind search in podcasts and music titles on streaming services like Qobuz, Tidal, Amazon Music HD and Deezer.

For buyers, the firmware update is now online and can be downloaded from the support website. Forbes also reports that Yamaha will have more optimizations “in development” in the future for its flagship AV receivers. These include support for Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), which should be of particular interest to gamers with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X game consoles.

Yamaha RX-A4A, RX-A6A and RX-A8A Firmware Update Ver.1.65:

  • 8K60Hz/4K/120Hz and HDR10+ support
  • Internet radio and podcast playback improvements
  • New MusicCast Controller feature (search bar functionality on selected streaming services)
  • Bug fixes: Error playing Dolby Vision on certain streaming services – MusicCast Surround / Stereo loading or connection issues – SiriusXM conversation list browsing issue – Restart issue in certain situations
