MTS, Megafon will act on the basis of the current market situation, Beeline, Tele2 refused to comment on the changes.

Changes in tariff prices at the beginning of each year are a common practice used by Russian operators, but this year they have already increased by 10%.

MTS revenue in 2021 amounted to 534.4 billion rubles, MegaFon – 354.2 billion rubles, VimpelCom – 290.7 billion rubles. With this in mind, it is enough for operators to “move prices slightly to earn quite significant amounts”, estimated Leonid Delitsyn, an analyst at Finam.

In early October, the FAS revealed a violation of the antitrust law by MTS and MegaFon. According to the agency, since the beginning of the year, operators have increased prices by 20% and 12%, respectively, although only 10.5% was permissible. As a result, the department launched a criminal case against MegaFon and issued an order against MTS to reduce prices “to an economically justified level.” In addition, a fine will be imposed on MTS, its size will be determined later.
