In 2018, Apple filed a class action request for a MacBook with a defective butterfly keyboard.
The lawsuit captured users from custody, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Washington. A federal court today set a $50 million payout date for Apple.
The payment will comprise $13.6 million in attorneys’ fees, up to $2 million in legal fees and $1.4 million in settlement costs, with the remainder to be distributed among the plaintiffs.
Apple added the butterfly keyboard to the MacBook, MacBookBook Air, and MacBook Pro in 2015 and 2016. The owners did not appreciate the novelty and sued under the pretext that the company intentionally sells a defective product and hides the presence of signs.
