Apple CEO Tim Cook and US Joe Biden attend the opening of a TSMC plant in Arizona, USA.

These chips will work on iPhones and MacBooks, as Tim Cook can confirm. Apple had to buy all the advanced chips from abroad. Now we are going to expand our supply chain here at home.

The TSMC factory will produce chips with a 4 nm process technology. Their production is planned for 2024. TSMC is also building a second 3nm chip manufacturing plant in the US.

Overall, TSMC is investing $40 billion in US plants. This is one of the most important foreign investments ever made in the US.

By 2026, both factories will produce more than 600,000 processors per year.

AMD and NVIDIA have confirmed that these will be among the first TSMC customers in the US. [The Verge]
