Finding a psychotherapist is difficult. Additionally, the therapy itself can be expensive. It’s much easier to turn to therapeutic chatbots. Among them, we can now name Woebot, Wysa, Youper. These bots are based on cognitive behavioral therapy. Moreover, scientific research shows that people can trust even a chatbot more than a human. It has to do with the fear of being judged.

However, the effectiveness of such chatbots may depend on the specifics of human interaction with the artificial intelligence system. Guiding another person is easier for a human psychotherapist than a machine. Additionally, there are few studies to date that show whether therapeutic bots are effective, good or bad, and for which specific people.

Even bots with pre-made answers to questions can easily hurt a person. In general, there are many situations where the bot’s response may be misunderstood or generally incorrect.

Good human therapists know when, how, and how much to push a person in a particular direction. In principle, it is very difficult to do this even for humans, and not like machines.

You have to be wary of therapy boots. Especially if some of them enter the market without adequate research into their effectiveness.
