Telecom Daily boss Denis Kuskov talked about a way to detect Internet theft. First, he needs to check the router – often a bad signal is formed due to the fact that the router slows down. The fact is that manufacturers of network equipment in the characteristics indicate mainly the theoretically achievable speed, the Prime agency reports.
According to the analyst, if the router has an inscription stating that its maximum speed is 100 Mbps, but in fact it provides only 60 Mbps, then this is normal.
You can correct the situation by updating the firmware of the router and the Wi-Fi adapter driver on a PC, which ensures the speed of the device and the ability to use its additional modes and functions.
When connecting third-party devices to the router, the speed characteristics will drop depending on the number of connected devices.
Denis Kuskov added that if there are suspicions of theft, you should first audit your own Wi-Fi connected devices. They can significantly slow down the speed of the Internet. To do this, just disconnect all devices from the network and check the indicator on the router, which indicates that it is being actively used.
If the indicator continues to flash when the devices are turned off, this is a sign that strangers are connected to Wi-Fi. In this case, it is worth changing the password to a more complex one, which will consist of numbers, letters, uppercase and lowercase letters.
