Four members of the Democratic Party have asked the US Department of Justice to review the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery. They believe the agreement interferes with competition. The merger took place in April 2022.
The letter states that Warner Bros. Discovery “empties the iconic American studio.” In addition, many projects have been canceled since the merger, including the closure of CNN+ and staff cuts of 750 people. on CNN, writes TechCrunch.
According to parliamentarians, thousands of people were affected by the aforementioned cuts. At the same time, WBD has planned cuts of $3.5 billion.
The letter ends with a request to the department to review the agreement again and take into account all actions taken by the company since the merger. Lawmakers hope the guidelines will be updated to benefit content workers, creators, and consumers.
