Some features and apps on iPhone and iPad are not currently available in certain countries due to local laws. For example, using FaceTime is officially prohibited in the UAE. However, most of these restrictions are bypassed by changing the device settings.

Running countryd will make circumventing regional restrictions much more difficult. The blocking will be based on a range of data, including your current location (determined by GPS), the country code of your Wi-Fi router, and information from your SIM card.

The system will determine the user’s location and block functions that are prohibited in his area.

According to experts, Apple may need countryd for iOS 17. In this version of the operating system, the ability to install applications bypassing the App Store is expected, but only in Europe.
