The library of the Russian music service “Zvuk” was replenished with compositions from foreign labels that left Russia, Kommersant drew attention. There are recent albums by Harry Styles (Sony Music), Cigarettes After Sex, Taylor Swift (Universal Music), Gorillaz (Warner Music) and others.
These albums are not available on other platforms: VK Music, Yandex.Music, MTS Music. Zvuk did not tell the newspaper why the tracks ended up on the platform.
In 2022, Sound allowed artists to upload their work to the platform, without going through a distributor. Market participants believe that pirates could take advantage of this. The lawyers, on the other hand, allow a variant in which a company from another country with the right to distribute in Russia could obtain a license for new items.
“Sound” previously belonged to Sberbank. In May 2022, the bank sold part of its ecosystem assets, after which JSC New Opportunities became the new owner of SberZvuk services, Okko, Okko Sport, SberCloud, the MDG group of companies and IT company evotor. SberZvuk also changed its name to Sound.
Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music have suspended their operations in Russia after launching a special operation in Ukraine in February last year.
