If you’re on the road somewhere on your Windows laptop and forgot your plug (or if there’s no outlet), you’re going to sweat on your brow. Because you don’t want the computer to shut down and cause you to lose your job. That’s why we give some tips to extend battery life a bit. We do this for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
For example, if you click on the battery icon in the Start bar, you will be greeted with a slider. If you swipe all the way to the right, the laptop favors performance; far left, preference is for energy saving. This could mean an extra hour of working time. Make sure battery saver is turned on in the new window that opens. Let it turn on automatically at ten or twenty percent (or a little earlier if you feel like you don’t have enough power for a day). Also check if the brightness is reduced in power saving mode. It’s also a good idea to turn off energy sinks.
We’re talking about apps that use a lot of energy in the background. put it under Battery usage per app open time One week and check which apps are taking too much from your battery. Turn them off if you don’t need them. Finally, it’s a good idea to double-check your power settings to know exactly when your laptop or screen will turn off after inactivity.
Battery in Windows 11 laptops
We’ve looked at Windows 10 options before, now we’re looking at what Windows 11 has to offer. In principle, it’s not that big of a difference. Tapping the battery icon gives you access to the operating mode and screen brightness. There’s also a button here that puts the laptop in question directly into energy-saving mode.
You can go to the settings related to energy consumption by right-clicking on the same button. Here you will see, for example, how many hours your battery will last. You can also quickly set the energy mode here. Are you focusing on performance, energy savings, or a combination? Finally, you’ll see an overview of battery usage for the last 24 hours.
Below this overview is a list of apps that have been demanding a lot from the battery in the last 24 hours or seven days. You can disable these applications on this page so that they still do not consume energy in the background. Finally, it’s good to have as few apps or browser tabs open as possible; because the more the laptop monitors, the more energy it requires.
