Threads, the long-awaited Meta clone for Twitter that goes hand-in-hand with Instagram accounts, launches this week and is available for pre-order now on the App Store. It will be July 6th when it will be launched, though not confirmed to be the case in all regions.
However, the appearance of the application in the App Store also brought a few surprises. In addition to a design very similar to Twitter’s own, the application’s tab also allows us to take a look at other elements.
And one of them, and the one that surprised everyone the most, your privacy sheet. If you’re planning on using Threads, brace yourself because Meta has one of the biggest privacy tabs in the App Store on its new app. In fact, The company does not appear to have left any of the privacy options unaddressed.. Or in other words, it is one of the social apps that collects the most user data.
Streams will collect a lot of data
This is a question to keep in mind since Threads follows these meta apps but collects much more data than Twitter or other similar apps. Considering that this app is focused on text communication, at least mostly, the app warns that it may even collect health data.
Not only health data, but also other sensitive data such as search history, browsing history, contact information, exact and approximate location, financial information, purchase history, physical condition… the list goes on.
The practice of collecting data in this type of application, especially in Meta, is quite common, but it is also true that other applications offer more features than Threads promises at first glance.
Either way, the flows will get to users next July 6 and it uses Instagram access data including usernames so everything indicates that to use streams you must have an Instagram account before including username.
If you’re particularly concerned about privacy, you’ll have to take a close look at the app’s privacy data, as currently the Streams tab in the App Store refers to the Instagram policy, so it could also be that both have the same policy. .
