We’ve hinted at this before, but Nothing Phone 2’s design is even better than the Phone 1’s, and while lighting is still an important part of its visual appeal, it’s the ergonomics that have received the biggest and most long-awaited update.

Nothing Phone 1 was flat and angular, like the first one. iPhone 14, but Nothing has soft-molded each side of the glass on the back, making the Nothing Phone 2 much more comfortable to hold and lessening the impact of the flat sides on the palm. It’s a brilliant and much-needed design change. I also love how the curves catch the light and the incredible transparency of the glass itself. From a short distance it looks like it doesn’t exist at all.

Nothing made the new gray color for the Nothing Phone 2 other than the white finish. The gray color enhances the sci-fi look of the phone and still lets the light of the Glyph shine.

Nothing. OS 2.0 installs on Phone 2 and is very similar to the software installed on Phone 1 in that it is a clean and uncomplicated version of Android, close to the user interface offered by Google on its Pixel phones. However, there is one very big change that may prove moot when the phone goes on sale.

You can choose from the regular Android icon pack, widget colors and layout, or take Nothing’s personal approach to OS design. It’s a complex change that changes the size and shape of widgets, the color and position of icons, the presence of text underneath them, and even the ability to place quick settings shortcuts on the lock screen. The icons stick to the Nothing pixel design language and an obvious love of monochrome, while the widgets have an iOS-style swipe to see more details.
