whatsapp just announced a new feature that will make it easier to communicate with large groups. This is about voice chatswhich work very similar to X Spaces (Twitter).
The idea behind WhatsApp is to offer Easier feature for voice conversations in large groupswithout being as intrusive as group calls. This way, it is expected that only those users who are available will be able to join the chat, and the rest will be able to continue sending messages as usual.
Without a doubt, a very interesting alternative that promises to be particularly attractive when you want to follow a specific event live or when you want to discuss issues that in the traditional way might require the exchange of dozens – or even hundreds – of messages.
As we indicated at the beginning, the new voice chats for WhatsApp groups are clearly inspired by X Spaces (Twitter). In this sense, participants will have the opportunity to connect in communication, the ability to communicate with others in a more direct and simultaneous way.
There will be quick controls at the top of the WhatsApp interface, allowing you to activate or deactivate your microphone, and leave a chat at any time. Both those who are connected and those who choose not to participate will be able to continue to interact within the group completely normally.
Voice chats reach large WhatsApp groups
It’s true that this new feature isn’t revolutionary. Moreover, we can say that in addition to X Spaces (Twitter), also inspired by calls on the Discord channel. However, it is being touted as a very tempting option for facilitating communication at times when the level of activity in a WhatsApp group may be very high.
The main attraction of the new voice chats is that they can be run silently. Group members they will receive a push notification, but to them it won’t sound as if it was an audio call. In addition, whoever initiates it will be able to later choose who to notify. To access the conversation, you simply need to click on the bubble that appears in the group chat.
Like all other means of communication (text, audio and video), new voice chats end-to-end encryption. Additionally, before joining, users can see who is connected via a banner displayed at the bottom of the screen.
It’s worth clarifying that this new feature will not be available in all WhatsApp groups. It will only reach those who have from 33 to 128 participantsand its global launch will occur in the coming weeks.
As of now, the messaging app hasn’t explained whether they plan to expand it to groups with any number of members in the future. It is also not specified whether voice chats will remain available for listening after they end, at least temporarily. We will be attentive to any news.
