Foldable phones are great, but one of the biggest aspects that makes buyers question whether they should spend so much money on a new device is their poor weather resistance. For example, Samsung Galaxy Z Foldable 6which has an IP48 rating, sufficient only for basic immersion in water. Additionally, it is not dustproof.

Oppo’s upcoming foldable phone, as well as OnePlus’s as a result, will be durable enough to be taken into the bath, shower, or even the occasional underwater video shoot. Oppo’s next smartphone called Find N5 has been officially confirmed to offer full IPX6, IPX8 and IPX9 water resistance.

According to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) ingress protection system, liquid ingress protection level 9 means that the device is “protected against high pressure temperatures and water jets.” It’s the best we’ve ever seen on a foldable phone, or even a regular flat phone.

In a series of posts published on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, an Oppo executive confirmed that the upcoming foldable phone will not only be the thinnest foldable phone in the world, but also one that can easily withstand exposure to fast-moving water.

In addition to improving intrusion protection on its upcoming foldable phone, Oppo is finally fixing another major bug: wireless charging support, and doing so quite decisively.

Oppo Find N5 will support 50W wireless charging, which is equivalent to OnePlus 13and are far superior to what Apple or Samsung can offer in their flagship phones. The phone’s body is made of titanium, which is in line with the approach Apple introduced in iPhone 15 pro Thanks to the superior strength and heat dissipation of the metal.

Oppo will launch the Find N5 next month, and given the brand’s historically close ties with its sister brand, it will likely be next. OnePlus Open 2 be a renamed version of the first one. In terms of design language, Oppo again sticks to the square format of the internal foldable panel, while the display on the outer cover also retains its pocket-sized format.

Notably, it’s not just the fantastic hardware that makes Oppo and OnePlus devices some of the best foldable devices on the market. Both companies have also done a fantastic job of optimizing the software to run on Android on the big screen.

In particular, the Open Canvas system remains one of the best multitasking implementations of split-screen apps, even better than what Apple can offer with iPadOS on its expensive tablets. With the improvements we’ve already seen in OxygenOS 15, the Oppo Find N5 promises to be one of the best foldable phones of the year.
