As of this Friday (14), sales of the iPhone 14 series will begin for all consumers in Brazil. Announced by Apple in September, the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are on sale starting today. The iPhone 14 Plus will be launched in the country on the 28th of this month.

HE TecMundo The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are already in their hands for testing, and after 48 hours with the standard model we bring you the main news and our first impressions of the device.

What’s up?

First of all, let’s get to the basics: the iPhone 14 starts at R$7,600 while the Plus model starts at R$8,600. These two models come with up to 512GB of storage, while the Pro series goes up to 1TB. More expensive ones like the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max start at R$9,500 and R$10,500 respectively.

The iPhone 14 has two rear cameras and a 12MP front camera each. The main difference from the last model is that the main sensor is larger and has an aperture of f / 1.5, so much that the cavity here is physically wider. The front camera also has a wider lens aperture and promises better performance in low-light situations as well as autofocus.

  • main camera: 12 MP (26mm, f/1.5), OIS, Smart HDR 4
  • ultra wide camera: 12 MP (13mm, f/2.4, 120º)
  • Front camera: 12 MP (f/1.9) with autofocus, 4K videos and Cinema mode

The cameras also gained two new recording modes: Action, which promises more stabilization, and Cinema with adjustable depth effects. We tested the cinema mode with the main camera and the result was quite interesting.

In photos, Apple promises 2.5 times better performance in low light with the main camera and 2 times better performance with the ultra-wide camera. According to the company, they are powered by computational photography, which brings more vivid colors and details to images in different conditions.

The iPhone 14 has a 3,279 mAh (20W wired, 15W wireless) battery, and Apple says it can be used all day long. I have to admit, I was positively surprised by the autonomy over the past few days, as it actually relied on more intensive use.

In a practical test, we unplugged it at 100% power around 9am and still had 14% left at midnight. Of course, taking into account that we spend the day testing new features, downloading and updating games and apps, listening to music, shooting movies and using the device regularly. But here’s the addition: these are first impressions, so let’s be calm.

Another good news for the iPhone 14 is that it now has a mode called Crash Detection and triggers an emergency by doing exactly what the name suggests. The other relates to satellite emergency calls; this feature is not yet available in the country and until then is exclusive to the United States and Canada.

What stays the same?

The standard iPhone 14 was criticized by consumers for being too similar to the iPhone 13. And it is. The rear camera layout and overall appearance remain the same. It has a Ceramic Shield on its aluminum back and sides and also provides water and dust resistance – submersible up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes.

This more “holy” look pleases me, because it’s as light as the iPhone 14, 13 – about 172 grams. The new lineup also features new colors: midnight, purple, star, blue and that red that’s definitely ultra red (even more flashy than the iPhone 13 of the same colour).

The iPhone 14’s screen has the same 6.1-inch size as the iPhone 13 and OLED technology. The resolution is also the same as the previous model (2532 x 1170 pixels) and the refresh rate remains at 60Hz. Anyone wanting to use ProMotion’s 120 Hz will need to purchase a Pro model.

iPhone 14

Like the last generation, the iPhone 14’s display is high quality and extremely bright, reaching 1,200 nits in HDR content. It has a great contrast ratio and is accompanied by a reduced notch on the top and thin edging on the sides.

However, unlike Pro models with A16 Bionic, the iPhone 14 has the A15 Bionic chip used in the last generation. However, the difference from the iPhone 13 is that the model used in the new series has a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, just like the iPhone 13 Pro.

The performance at this first contact was very good. It’s fast for almost any activity, plays games with great fidelity, and has so far shown no signs of stuttering or overheating.

Apple states that it has made changes to the internal architecture of the phone, thus improving heat dissipation for tighter performance. Another change is that the rear glass can be removed more easily, which makes mobile phone repairs easier when needed.

iOS 16 and other details

One of Apple’s biggest bets for 2022 is iOS 16. The update brings a new customizable lock screen with widgets, new Focus modes, notifications placed at the bottom of the screen, and more. For example, the music widget now appears here in the bottom area, making it much easier to access.

Another change that iPhone 14 supports is the use of Face ID horizontally with the mobile phone. It’s a relatively minor and usability-focused change. Among others, it is also compatible with the new iPhone 5G and of course does not include a charger in the box.

So the iPhone 14 is a very good mobile phone, but it does not contain any significant changes compared to the iPhone 13. Full review of iPhone. TecMundo which will be ready in few days.
