The cameras built into smartphones have gotten better and better in recent years. In addition to the advanced hardware, this is due to the extensive processing that takes place. According to Nikkei Japan, Terushi Shimizu, president and CEO of Sony Semiconductor Solutions, said during a presentation that these cameras will become good enough to override digital SLRs in the coming years.

There are some caveats to add here, such as the option to change lenses on DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Also, battery life is an important factor as a phone is used for more than just photos. Quick swapping of memory cards is also an increasingly neglected function in phones lately. As a result, it seems that individual cameras will not be completely replaced in the coming years.
