Microsoft is working on a new feature for Windows 11 that will make it easier to set up a new PC. The ‘Restore Apps’ functionality makes it possible to quickly install Microsoft Store apps from your previous computer to a new device. Restore Apps will be available to Windows Insiders soon.

Microsoft explains in its Developer Blog that the feature should be positive for both end users and app developers. It makes it easy for consumers to quickly install any software they want on their new PC with one button for all Store apps on your previous PC. The result for developers is that they are less likely to lose users because they forgot to download your app again.

Unfortunately, the restore feature doesn’t seem to work outside of the Microsoft Store. For many programs such as game launchers, web browsers and the like, you will need to continue downloading manually or use third-party software such as Ninite.

Additionally, Microsoft will soon roll out new advertising capabilities in the Microsoft Store, more capabilities for Win32 apps in the virtual store, and Progressive Web Apps for the Meta Quest title.
