A new evaluation of the tigers International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates that there are currently between 3,726 and 5,578 tigers in the wild worldwide, with a 40% increase compared to 2015. A large part of the increase is due to improvements in animal monitoring.

The higher number of tigers is also due to an increase in conservation efforts by the governments of the countries in which they live. Tigers are still listed as endangered by the IUCN, which is evaluating the species threatened. In fact, in many parts of the world, tigers continue to decline and have lost much of their range due to poaching, habitat loss, and other man-made factors.

Tigers are considered of great value within the illegal wildlife trade, which has become a huge global industry. While tigers are just one of many endangered species, conservation efforts can benefit the areas and people within these communities.

These kinds of assessments show that conservation interventions can be a real solution and that tigers can begin to recover from the risk of extinction, increasing in number.
