Subscribers to Amazon Prime should rejoice, now they can take advantage of the full catalog of Amazon music. Previously, users could only sample the platform, half a service: 1 million songs against a catalog of more than 100 million. And those who wanted all the numbers had to subscribe to an ad hoc, more expensive subscription.
So can Prime subscribers do without Spotify Premium or Apple Music? No, because there are still some important limitations. For starters, Prime members can’t select the specific songs they want to listen to. They must limit themselves to reproduction’shuffle‘, random. In other words, they can select the album, artist or playlist they are interested in, and Amazon Music will randomly play songs from their chosen library. It works a bit like Spotify for non-subscribers.
To be able to select the songs independently, without depending on chance, you have to pay the monthly subscription of 9 dollars. The subscription also includes playing the songs with spatial audio and some other benefits.
So, anyone hoping to get unlimited access to the Amazon Music platform, a bit like it works for Prime Video, will only be half happy. Would Amazon dare more? Needless to say, if it had included full service with Amazon Prime, it would have landed platforms like Spotify and Apple Music in serious trouble.
